Make sure to Register to Vote, as local elections are taking place in Thanet on Thursday 4 May and, for the first time, you will need to bring an accepted form of photo ID to the polling station when you go to vote. If you cannot attend the polling station, you can do your vote by proxy, but postal votes must be done.

PHOTO ID:

Accepted forms of photo ID:

  • A passport issued by the UK, Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country.

  • A European Economic Area (EEA) photographic ID Card.

  • A Blue Badge.

IF YOU - DO NOT HAVE - ID

If you do not have any of the accepted photo ID, and you want to vote at the polling station, you will need to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (a free, photographic identification document specifically for the purposes of voting) - you can do that at https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate

POSTAL VOTING - PROXY VOTING

VOTING FROM HOME - OR SEND SOMEONE

If you would rather not worry about obtaining a suitable photo ID, you can always request a postal vote or vote by proxy, as a photo ID is currently not required for these two voting methods.
