CALL FOR 20 IS PLENTY - SPEED LIMIT

Calls by Jack Packman, for 20mph zone and chicanes in Dane Valley Road following serious crashes, over the years a number of crashes and near misses have given Jack good cause to get involved, and do something about this.

Jack Packman, with Margate county councillor Barry Lewis to whom is backing the petition and taking the request for the 20mph zone and chicanes to Kent County Council.

Latest News: Jack revealed on Facebook "Really positive site meeting with KCC highways today regarding Dane Valley Road and the recent speeding issues!

Thank you to KCC Councillor Barry Lewis, for arranging the meeting and a huge well done to the residents coming together to get action! Next few weeks we will see road surveys to measure the speed of cars and they were exploring how they could improve the road (as seen in the picture) A public meeting will be called in the next few weeks - update to follow"

Previously in an article with The Isle of Thanet News, Jack explained the situation, and concerns by the local community, and with both residents and with the support of County Councillor Barry Lewis, they are making progress.

Jack speaking with The Isle of Thanet News said:

“Residents who live on the Dane Valley Road and surrounding areas are now seriously worried about their safety, their families safety and that of the community.

“Over the last few years four serious incidents have happened in Dane Valley Road with two in the last three weeks, resulting in near fatalities and serious injuries.

“It is traumatic for those who live on this road to keep experiencing these incidents as well as having their own cars written off. The current traffic calming measures do not work. The speed bumps are not fit for purpose.

“The Dane Valley Residents Association is campaigning for a 20mph speed limit which the petition is for and we will be campaigning for Chicanes to be installed.

“We will be launching a speed watch project in March with recruitment of volunteers starting in February.

“ I have a meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Area Commander and Chief Inspector of Kent Police on January 14 to address these types of issues in Dane Valley.”

Margate county councillor Barry Lewis is backing the petition and taking the request for the 20mph zone and chicanes to Kent County Council.

He said: “I have reiterated my demand for traffic calming measures on Dane Valley Road, one of the most dangerous roads in Kent.

“I’ve asked for a 20mph speed limit and chicanes, both of which we have in other areas of Thanet. The present traffic calming measures in that road are inadequate.”

Previously on Facebook Jack said: "Over the weekend we was out talking to residents in Dane Valley about the speeding issues in the area! A lot of residents passionate and wanting to see change to keep themselves and their families safe! One resident has had many cars written off due to the poor driving behaviour! Another resident has nearly been hit twice due to a speeding car! We don’t want to see change when it’s too late and someone innocent is killed! You can support the first step of change by signing the petition

One of those who have signed is Hannah Barrs, who says: “I run a children’s group in Dane Valley and fear that another serious accident will happen. People use Dane Valley road as a race track.”
