Transport, Road Safety & Highways

A safe, reliable, and accessible transport system is essential for connecting communities, supporting local businesses, and protecting our environment. We are committed to transforming Kent’s transport network with sustainable, affordable, and efficient solutions that work for everyone.

  • Transport for Kent Pilot Scheme: We will launch a pilot 'Transport for Kent' model, a publicly accountable transport network designed to coordinate bus, train, and community transport services under one system. This model will prioritise affordable, reliable, and accessible services across the county, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

  • Improving Bus Services & Green Transport Solutions: We will pilot a 'Transport for Kent' model to bring greater coordination, accountability, and affordability to local bus services. Our focus will be on making services more reliable, frequent, and accessible – especially in rural areas where public transport options are currently limited. We'll champion low-emission and electric buses to help cut carbon emissions and improve air quality.

  • Better Road Safety Measures: Every resident should feel safe on Kent’s roads. We will push for new pedestrian crossings, cycle-friendly routes, and improved lighting in high-risk areas. We'll also campaign for stricter speed limit enforcement and the introduction of traffic calming measures in accident hotspots to protect both pedestrians and drivers.

  • Tackling Unnecessary Roadworks & Disruption: Endless roadworks and poor coordination cause frustration and disruption across Kent. We will call for a planned schedule of maintenance that prioritises essential repairs, reduces unnecessary roadworks, and ensures better communication with residents. This will include tighter regulation of utility companies to minimise disruption and speed up works.

  • Fixing Potholes and Highways Maintenance: Potholes and poorly maintained roads are a danger to all road users. We will demand greater investment in road maintenance, focusing on a comprehensive pothole repair programme that prioritises the worst-affected areas. We'll work to ensure repairs are carried out quickly, effectively, and to a high standard, preventing repeat issues and making roads safer.

  • Highways Maintenance & Pothole Repairs: Years of underinvestment have left our roads in a poor state. We will fight for greater investment in road maintenance, with a focus on repairing potholes, resurfacing damaged roads, and improving drainage systems. Our approach will ensure repairs are completed quickly, to a high standard, and without unnecessary disruption.

  • Promoting Active Travel: We want to make walking and cycling safer and more attractive for everyone. We'll work to create joined-up cycling networks, pedestrian-friendly streets, and secure bike storage facilities across Kent.

  • Accessible Transport for All: Every resident should be able to access reliable, affordable transport. We'll push for improved accessibility on buses, trains, and stations, with more community transport options for older residents and those with disabilities.
